From 1991 to 2021, Vicarious Visions was the name of a studio that made a bunch of pretty cool licensed games, but which also contributed to the beloved Tony Hawk Pro slider series. Then Activision came in and made some changes.
In January 2021, having only published a remake Toni Havk Pro Skater 1 + 2, Activision has announced that they are developers are merged into Blizzardand would it will also get a name changeeffectively killing the studio as we knew it.
Then I said, “This is bullshit!”but it’s even bullshit more now because of claims – from someone who would know – that the developers planned to repeat the treatment of the remake with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4.
On the recent stream of Neversoft and Vicarious veterans andiTHPS Tony Hawk himself was there for the interview and accidentally rejected the fact that he was there until the moment THPS 1 + 2 edition, the “plan” was to then move on and bring out the remastered package THPS 3 + 4.
I mean, that was the plan, you know, even until the release date [THPS1+2] we went 3 + 4, and then Vicarious was kind of absorbed, and they were looking for other developers, and then it was over.
We have no idea how far that plan was. Maybe THPS 3 + 4 there was nothing more than a dot on the whiteboard, something the team wanted to start next, but they were never given a chance (although we contacted Activision to see if they could provide more information). So we also have no idea how hard Activision was looking for “other developers” (of whom no one could obviously be “trusted” like Vicarious, even when asked to come up with ideas for Tony Hawk project), or who those other studies were because it feels that way all in company or real Call of duty or Blizzard games. Regardless of the facts, like I said above, this is bullshit!
